Fireflight Soars To No. 1 On Christian Rock Radio With ‘Unbreakable”

Fireflight Soars To No. 1 On Christian Rock Radio With ‘Unbreakable”

Source: CMSpin

Orlando-based rock band Fireflight has the No. 1 Christian rock song in the country for a third week with “Unbreakable,” the first single and title track off the highly-anticipated sophomore album releasing March 4. The band’s new hit climbs to the top spot after only seven weeks since its release to radio and remains No. 1 on both R&R’s and CRW’s Rock charts, while coming in as the most-added song of the week on R&R’s CHR format at No. 14.

The band’s current radio success adds to the buzz already created by the NBC network in November 2007, with “Unbreakable” selected as the anthemic promotional soundtrack for primetime TV show “Bionic Woman.” This marks Fireflight’s third career No. 1 song on the rock format.

Lead singer Dawn Richardson says, “I hope this song continues to inspire listeners at radio to overcome a defeated mentality and find power to remain strong amid the landscape, not allowing fear to hold us back from having victory over the things that used to control us.”
Drummer Phee Shorb adds, “It’s cool to have radio support so quickly, even before the album releases, and to know that fans believe in the song and are connecting with the message of Unbreakable.”

Justin Cox, guitarist, notes, “We are so grateful to our fans and thank them for requesting the new song. ‘Unbreakable’ couldn’t be No. 1 without our loyal fans!”

The chart-topping song is also being featured on the Gospel Music Channel cable network this month. The network recently covered the band’s music video shoot for “Unbreakable” and is currently highlighting the making-of the brand new music video. The preview piece can be viewed at: www.gospelmusicchannel.com/videos/exclusive.

Fronted by female vocalist Dawn Richardson, Fireflight’s music has been featured on E! Entertainment’s “Style Network” and in music-video reels at both American Eagle and Journey’s stores across the country. Fireflight averages 140 shows a year and previously delivered two No. 1 rock singles “You Decide” and “Waiting” off its 2006 debut album The Healing of Harms.

Winter Jam 2008 Attracts More Fans Than Ever Before

Winter Jam

The Winter Jam Tour Spectacular is Christian music’s largest annual musical tour and in 2008 they are bringing in more fans than ever before, with attendance trending 20 percent ahead of last year. In just six weeks, over 194,000 fans have come out to see the tour, while they have also seen a 32 percent increase of people making decisions for Christ. This year is the biggest show yet, bringing in Platinum selling artists such as MercyMe, Skillet, BarlowGirl, NewSong, American Idol’s Mandisa and Connersvine featuring Indianapolis Colt, Hunter Smith.

“We’re in awe at what God is doing at Winter Jam each night. The stories of changed lives continue to excite us as we see the Holy Spirit moving in a mighty way,” says The Premier Group’s Roy Morgan, co-producer of the Winter Jam Tour Spectacular with NewSong.

Last year Greensboro, NC was Winter Jam’s largest show in its history, and this year they broke their own record there with over 18,000 people in attendance. As the excitement Winter Jam creates comes to each city, a “tail-gate” atmosphere forms, causing people to line up three to four hours in advance to get in to the show and see their favorite artists. With the tour continuing to be such a draw in 2008, local TV and print media have shown immense support of Winter Jam with coverage in nearly every market.

Winter Jam is bringing quite the concert experience to cities across the US, but it’s not just the fans having a great time, it’s the artists involved as well. “This tour is the biggest and best tour Skillet has ever done all the way from the amount of people showing up to the amount of people making decisions for Christ, says John Cooper, lead singer of Skillet. “It’s absolutely been a really good experience for us.”

The 10-week tour will conclude at the Sommet Center in Nashville, TN on March 16th hitting 19 states along the way.  Grammy-nominated and Dove Award-winning, NewSong is hosting the high-energy event for the 13th consecutive year, which also features special guest speaker Tony Nolan and the Xtreme sports Real Encounter BMX/Skate Team.

Holt International, the world’s leader in child adoption and relocation services has received 2, 395 sponsorships thus far.  The Wayne E. Bailey Produce Company is another organization sponsoring the event along with HearItFirst.com who is giving out free download cards to the first 500 in line each night.  Dave Ramsey’s “Generation Change” student finance curriculum is also a new sponsor this year. Word Label Group is also hosting the Pre-Jam Party featuring pureNRG and Group 1 Crew. Co-sponsored by media giants Fox Faith and Word Label Group, this event begins forty minutes before the official start of the show. For more information, please visit www.jamtour.com.

Warren Barfield’s Worth Fighting For, In Stores May 20th

Warren Barfield’s

Source: CMSpin

Essential Records recording artist, Warren Barfield, has announced the May 20, 2008 release of his third, in-studio album, Worth Fighting For. The 11-track project was produced by Charlie Peacock (Switchfoot, Nichole Nordeman); Mark A. Miller (Casting Crowns); and Jason Ingram and Rusty Varenkamp (Bebo Norman, Rush of Fools).

Worth Fighting For marks a decided return to Barfield’s own creative instincts. Barfield shares, “There was a huge difference between the first and second records, but this one meets in the middle. My life is so much different than it was a year ago, and I’ve got something important to say, so I wanted to clothe these songs in a way that will carry the message to the people who take time out of their lives to come see my shows. That’s what we set out to do, musically.”

The songs of Worth Fighting For draw a bead on the sanctity and sacrifice of relationships—the encouragement, prayer, the listening and the commitment we make to those we love, to those we choose to ‘do life’ with. “True Christianity is about being Christ to others,” Barfield says of the theme of the record. “If we really believe in the whole thing, if we really believe He came all that distance and gave His life because He loved us, it’d change the way we love each other. That kind of love really could change the world.”

Producer Charlie Peacock comments on Barfield, and Worth Fighting For, “The most unique thing about Warren is his voice. All of the songs and the production are meant to highlight his unique gift. Warren is gracefully human as a person and an artist, with a heart bent toward Jesus.”

“Love Is Not A Fight,” the first radio single from Worth Fighting For, is gaining big and immediate response from radio. Bob Thornton, Program Director of KXOJ in Tulsa, Okla., shares, “‘Love Is Not A Fight’ is going to save some marriages, at the very least. Not too many songs actually carry power, but this one is loaded.”

“Love Is Not A Fight,” will play an integral, musical role in the upcoming film, Fireproof, the new movie from the creators of Facing the Giants. Fireproof is an action-packed love story, set to open in theaters this fall. This inspiring film will have audiences laughing, crying and sitting on the edges of their seats, as they are drawn into the world of a firefighter, his wife and a marriage worth rescuing.

Barfield describes the story behind “Love Is Not A Fight.” “My wife is my best friend, who I love dearly, and she loves me. But isn’t it fascinating that two people who love each other so much can cut one another so deeply? When you let issues build up in a marriage, the smallest thing can trigger a war, and pretty soon you can lose sight of your love and commitment to one another. We had a night where something as trivial as spilled pretzels forced into the open things we had left unsaid. Once everything had calmed down, I wrote this song. In that moment, I fully realized my duty, as my wife’s husband, was to wrap my arms around her. To love her more than my pride, more than my desire to be ‘right,’ and to find a way to move through life’s good and bad times together. That will be a struggle at times, but love is worth the fight.”

Worth Fighting For comprises the following 11 tracks: “The One Thing,” “Say It With Your Life,” “God Believes In You,” “Love Is Not A Fight,” “This Road,” “Drop the World,” “The Singer Not the Song,” “As It Is In Heaven,” “Reflect You,” “I Belong To You,” “Love Is Not A Fight” (acoustic version). (track sequence subject to change).

“I feel that adding the Wednesday program with a free Jars of Clay concert is just one way we can say ‘Thank You’ to the people who have been attending for years and have helped make Sonshine one of the best festivals of the summer,” explains Michael W. Scanland, Sonshine Festival co-founder.  “We have an amazing Festival planned for 2008 and are looking forward to all that this year has in store for those attending.”

A festival for music lovers of all ages and music styles, Sonshine features a variety of performers on four different stages. The 2008 line-up includes:

Not only about entertaining through music and fun activities, Sonshine also has a goal of impacting and changing lives.  To that end, featured speakers for the weekend include Bob Lenz and Jeremy Kingsley.

“For the 27th year in a row, the Sonshine Music Festival will be held in Willmar, MN and will be nothing short of a lifetime memory”, comments festival co-founder, Bob Poe. “What could be better than the best in the Christian music world – in one place – for three days? Maybe it is hanging out with friends or making new ones. Maybe it’s the skate park, the kids’ ministry or the new sports arena stage. Maybe it is Main Stage, Stage 2, HM Stage or the Hip Hop Stage. Maybe it’s the 20,000 people attendees will worship with each day or a personal encounter with the One we worship. One thing is for sure, Sonshine 2008 is for you!”

About Sonshine Festival
Launched in 1982 by local Willmar, MN youth pastor, Bob Poe, Sonshine Festival has grown from 1,800 attendees in its first year to 25,000 in 2007.  The Willmar Community College Campus played host to the event for the first four years and after outgrowing the venue, Sonshine relocated to the Willmar Civic Center in 1987, where it has remained for the past 22 years, in part to the construction of the Willmar High School facility next door.  Throughout its 26-year history, Sonshine has featured nearly every major artist in the Christian music world and remains true to its commitment to deliver the hottest artists as well as encourage young people to become or continue to be a life-long follower of Jesus.  Poe and the original steering committee are still organizing and providing leadership for the Music Festival.

Sonshine belongs to the Christian Festival Association, a membership organization representing the premier Christian Music Festivals across the country, collectively hosting more than 1.4 million attendees nationwide.

Delirious? Releases Kingdom of Comfort, April 2008

Kingdom of Comfort

The UK-based, RIAA Certified Gold-selling, globally relevant band Delirious? returns with their eleventh studio album, Kingdom of Comfort, set to release April 1, 2008 on Sparrow Records.  Its first new studio album since the acclaimed 2005 release, Mission Bell, Delirious?’s Kingdom of Comfort questions everything, from cancer to consumerism, “five star” dreams to slums and poverty.  It is an album that calls for sacrifice, social justice and love.

Recent tours have taken Delirious? to some of the poorest countries on earth where they’ve faced encounters with life that made poverty personal and forced hard questions to be asked by each member of the band. It sparked a newfound commitment to social justice and compassionate ministry as an outworking of their being drawn ever closer to the Kingdom of God, as opposed to the kingdom of comfort.

Taking their renewed faith, thoughts and questions about these journeys into the studio, the band emerged with an album full of songs that encompass every aspect of highs and lows they faced in their travels.

“We just can’t carry on the same way in any sphere of our lives,” says Delirious? frontman, Martin Smith. “Everywhere you go there’s a shift happening. People are evaluating what’s truly important in life, and I think our new album reflects that urgency.”

“Seeing children looking for scraps on the rubbish dump they call homes in Cambodia and the education and feeding projects in the slums of Mumbai [India] really had an impact on us,” adds lead guitarist Stu G. “It wasn’t possible to simply proceed with business as usual. We had to ask ourselves, ‘What am I building? A kingdom of comfort? Or a kingdom of heaven?’”

With the album’s first radio single, “We Give you praise,” Martin confirms that we are to walk on the road of life and not give up.  “We blame the devil for a lot of our troubles, but most of my trouble comes from me, my flesh, the old man. We have been saved from ourselves. That’s the most amazing thing. Left to my own devices I would perish.”

Literature also played a big part in the writing of Kingdom of Comfort, inspiring the songs and the mission. In fact, not only did authors inspire the new album, some have also joined the band in the mission writing stories to encourage charity in conjunction with the new album.  Delirious? plans to share these stories with their fans as four authors have been confirmed to participate so far:  Graham Cray, Bishop of Maidstone and the chair of the working group who published The Mission Shaped Church; Brian McLaren, author of The Secret Message of Jesus; Craig Borlase, author of The Naked Christian: Taking Off Religion To Find True Relationship; and Shane Claiborne, author of The Irresistible Revolution.

“We are made to live for something bigger than ourselves — this thing we call the Kingdom of God… God’s dream for the world,” writes Claiborne.  “This is the realm where the last are first and the first are last, where the poor are blessed and the peacemakers are the children of God.  This whole Christian thing is not just about going up to heaven after we die, but it is about bringing God’s Kingdom to earth.  This is the Gospel that should comfort the disturbed and disturb the comfortable.”

And Delirious? is comfortable playing in front of over a million people, like they recently did in India.  It is not as natural for them to travel to the slums and serve food to the poor, but that’s exactly what they did in India.  Afterwards, Delirious? arranged for a bus to bring about 40 of the women and children they served food to in the slums to the concert.  As the children and their mothers, who were prostitutes, danced and sang at the concert, the band was inspired to write “All God’s Children (Sing Hallelujah),” which is featured on the new album.

Taking these experiences with him, Martin began considering how he, along with the international Christian music community, could truly make a difference in the world together.  After 18 months of prayer, countless business meetings and careful planning, Smith’s dreams were realized when the first annual Compassionart conference met in Perthshire, Scotland. In what he described as a “I-can’t-stop-pinching-myself moment,” Smith, along with Stu G, Michael W. Smith, Steven Curtis Chapman, Darlene Zschech, Matt Redman, Tim Hughes, Israel Houghton and other internationally-respected songwriters teamed up to write songs with 100% of the proceeds from the songs and forthcoming album going to the charities of their choice.

As Compassionart stories are told by numerous media globally, from the Associated Press to the Washington Post to Worship Musician, Delirious? will continue to circumvent the globe to inspire music lovers worldwide.  The band has closed for the Pope in front of a million people in Germany, played for 1.2 million in India, toured with Bon Jovi and Bryan Adams and more.  Receiving its second Gospel Music Association International Award last year, Delirious? traveled to at least 25 countries in 2007 alone, and will hit Houston, Phoenix, Dallas, Detroit, Sacramento, Winston-Salem, and many other cities in the US this year as they carry on the tradition of spiritually challenging lyrics, while pointing people to see the wonders of what God has done for them.

More information about the band can be found at the newly designed www.delirious.co.uk, with even more content available by joining the band’s “Living Room” at www.delirious.co.uk/livingroom.

Steven Curtis Chapman’s ‘Cinderella’ Dances Up the Charts

Steven Curtis

Source: CMSpin

Multiple Dove and GRAMMY Award winner Steven Curtis Chapman is already credited with 41 #1 radio hits, but he might have his biggest chart success yet with “Cinderella,” an unforgettable new father and daughter-inspired song now dancing its way up playlists around the country.

Featured on his sixteenth studio release, THIS MOMENT, “Cinderella” is at the center of the album’s acclaim, has received more than 70 adds at radio stations in its first month of release, and recently hit #1 on the Christian downloads page at iTunes. Chapman will perform the song on the Gospel Music Channel’s “The Kitchen Sink” news and entertainment program February 23 at 8 p.m. (ET). The “Cinderella” video will have its world broadcast premiere one week later (March 1) on the same show.

In concert news, Chapman’s LIVE In This Moment Tour continues to draw sold-out crowds, and more dates have been added for the month of April that will be mostly acoustic events. The singer, who is taking audience requests this time around, has also begun posting so-called “roadeos”—video blogs filmed on the tour bus—at his YouTube channel.

Find a show near you, hear “Cinderella,” and see more video clips at MySpace.com/StevenCurtisChapman.

Daily devotional – The Power of the Spirit

Who exactly is the Holy Spirit? What is He like? The disciples must have asked questions like these when Jesus told them that they would receive power when the Holy Spirit came on them. They must have wondered what would happen. Would He be a quiet force? A gentle reminder? Their questions were answered on the day of Pentecost when the Spirit came quickly and without warning. He came with a noise that was like a “violent, rushing wind.” He came not in meekness but in power and even violence. He came in a rush, with an overwhelming force. They may not have seen His presence, but they heard it. And He performed miracles, changes their lives, and disrupted the world. This is the same Spirit that God has sent into your life. Yes, He is gentle and speaks in a still, small voice. But do not minimize His power or the impact He can make, through you! He comes with violence and power, shaking things up, empowering you in ways you could not imagine. He can disrupt armies. Stop storms. Heal[...]
